Titre: Select committees Posté par: Mikkel Paulson le 6 juin 2010, 06:57:29 Currently, we have a number of standing committees, most of which don't do a whole lot. They are created for a specific purpose, which may or may not be of particular importance at the time.
Therefore, I suggest we consider striking some select committees instead. They are temporary committees used in Parliament that are given a particular subject to investigate in detail, after which they report their findings back to Parliament to be voted on. I think some of the standing committees we have started, like the Constitutional Refinement and Platform Information committees, are of limited scope and time-sensitive, and would have been better created as select committees. Thoughts? Titre: Re: Select committees Posté par: ChrisOBrien le 6 juin 2010, 11:53:59 Agreed. Task, or purpose, based committees seems logical and significantly more organized.
Well, perhaps organization is the wrong term. Less clutter. Separate wheat from the chaff. Or my personal favourite, a higher signal to noise ration. :-) Titre: Re: Select committees Posté par: ChrisTomalty le 18 juillet 2010, 09:15:30 I would like to express interest in joining the committee on the establishment of youth and university groups as set out in the agenda. I have been meaning to get involved, and as I am entering Carleton next year in a policy program (Public Affairs and Policy Management with an option for specialization in IT & Communications Policy, which I imagine might be useful) this seems like the perfect time.
Titre: Re: Select committees Posté par: Mikkel Paulson le 18 juillet 2010, 09:21:22 Sounds good. The committee won't be created until after the meeting on the 19th (assuming the motion passes), after which you'll be able to sign up over here (https://www.pirateparty.ca/forum/index.php?topic=11.0).
Titre: Re: Select committees Posté par: ChrisTomalty le 18 juillet 2010, 09:33:59 Because I completely just posted in the wrong tab... Impressive.
