Good opportunity to let people know about our party.

It's likely going to be cold, and free stuff is always nice. If we could have a couple people pitch thermoses (I've got two I can use) it would be really easy to make some coffee and hot chocolate to give away.
Title: Re: Calgary Rally In Support of WikiLeaks - January 15th, 2011 Post by: Mikkel Paulson on December 19, 2010, 03:00:48 PM Sure. We'd need a table to set that stuff up at though. Dain also suggested selling tshirts, but I don't think that's appropriate for a rally.

I'm not sure how much that would cost and if it can be afforded to give away a few shirts. Just throwing a few of them into the crowd would work well. It would be incredibly easy to set up a table too.Title: Re: Calgary Rally In Support of WikiLeaks - January 15th, 2011 Post by: Mikkel Paulson on December 19, 2010, 07:11:04 PM We pay about $5 per shirt if memory serves, and we don't have many left unfortunately.

How many do you have left? I'm willing to buy a few to throw around the rally. The weather is likely going to be complete shit and not ideal conditions for something like this, so we need as much incentive for people to show up as possible. Those PPCA bumper stickers would also be great here, and we don't need incredibly copious amounts. I've still got a few kicking around my house but not many. A lot were given away at the bookfair and other situations that don't immediately come to mind.Aside from things we could give away, what do we have as far as PPCA and pro-WikiLeaks imagery goes? I still have a large pirate flag and an equally large wooden dowel to mount it on and it wouldn't be too difficult to have a few signs made up, though cost is an issue here. I don't want to make any promises and I'm not going to, but it's likely I'll be able to pitch at least one hundred dollars to create some professional looking signs. It would be a worthwhile investment for the future too. Of course attendees should also be encouraged to create their own signs, but we should have a few suggestions for them. Any ideas? Some ideas that come to mind include:
We also need to consider what is needed as far as postering and various ways of spreading word of this demonstration goes. As far as posters go, I think what you sent me and what is being used on the Facebook page for the rally is pretty much perfect, though if it is going to be postered around the city and various campuses I think it should be modified to include an emphasis on free coffee, hot chocolate, stickers, and T-shirts (assuming we go forward with that idea). We should also utilize social networking to connect to students within the UoC. Of course, there is also the issue of letting mainstream media know about this. This should be done one or two weeks prior, at least in my opinion to allow for us to get our shit straight. Title: Re: Calgary Rally In Support of WikiLeaks - January 15th, 2011 Post by: Mikkel Paulson on December 20, 2010, 04:59:58 AM We're ordering Pirate Party flags for the rallies. :)
However, I'm concerned about providing TOO MUCH Pirate Party imagery. This isn't exclusively a party event, so while it's okay to use it for promoting the party a bit, I don't want them to feel like they're attending a Pirate Party rally. The focus should stay on WikiLeaks. If you'd like to contribute to sign purchases, make it as a party contribution instead and we'll pay for the signs. Elections Canada will be happier and you'll get a tax deduction for 75% of the contribution. Title: Re: Calgary Rally In Support of WikiLeaks - January 15th, 2011 Post by: JasonCarr on December 20, 2010, 09:12:54 AM I agree with Mikkel that too much PPCA imagery will muddle the intended goal of this rally. I really like the idea of hot chocolate and coffee though. The only issue I can see with that is transporting the necessary equipment to the site. Those large thermoses would be quite heavy full of liquid and then there is the issue of the table.
I know that neither myself nor Steve has a vehicle but if anyone else whose is planning on attending the rally does, that could help matters.
