Andrei B's election experience

This message was emailed to me by Andrei B, who ran in the municipal elections in Caledon, ON.

Hi folks!

I was running for local councilor at the end of 2010 in Caledon, ON. I was not elected but, obviously, I have got some very interesting experience. I’m hoping it will be useful for those who are going to try run for federal election recently.

I know you are running out of time but I just couldn’t login to PPOC web site for at least a week. To get to PPOC forum became extremely difficult. Hope you are going to fix it some how. Don’t be like conservatives - too much security, folks.

I’ll try to be short then.

By the way my election web site is still running. It is www.andreib.ca.

The most important thing is this.

Don’t spend money and time for lawn signs, for placing expensive ads in some web sites and papers, mailing tons of brochures and fliers. Ass soon as you registered as candidate, you’ll be flooded with these kinds of offers from businesses which specialize in sucking money from brand new politicians.

Instead of this do nock the doors, meet people and talk, talk, talk. They want to know who you are literally. They want to hear your voice, they want to look into your eye, to find out what your ideas are what to expect from you.

People are tired of these asses which are seating at the hill like forever. They want something new, but they don’t see it!

The only choice they have is decide who’s going to pump money from their pockets for another four years – conservatives or liberals. Liberals or conservatives, and so on, and so on. Is that an election? It’s obvious to everyone that it is just an imitation of election, it’s just bullshit. This system must be changed. But it will not change itself. We must do that.

Most likely the System will not give you a chance to be elected at this time. You will not be able to change the system immediately, but some day it will change. That’s for sure. We just have to start trying to do that. If we don’t try nothing happen. It will become only worse and worse.

Participate in any debates you can get to. I have participated at least in three or four of them. If you can organize your own debates – it’s the best. You’ll have much more time to explain your ideas instead of three or four minutes. Invite everyone to come - even your competitors.

What is also very important is that 75% of people who are over 65 years old will vote. Most of young people, like you, guys, unfortunately will not participate in elections.

So talk and meet older people, folks. These guys quietly form the political shape of our country just simply going to the ballot boxes. They are smart and experienced and they will understand you and your ideas if you don’t act like extremists or clowns of course. Explain them what it’s all about and why they have to elect your party. And might be some pirates will be seated in parliament one day.

If any questions – ask. I’ll be glad to help. Probably I forgot to tell something. If remember I’ll tell of course.
