I just found out that I will be living in Ottawa from September 1st, onwards, meaning I would not be able to get involved with this, since I will be busy moving.

No worries Bleskie.

Is there anyone who's actually in Ottawa that wants to help? It'd be great if there was someone willing to help put up flyers across the city.

This is what I'm going to do.

I'm going to be compiling a list of members in the Ottawa area, so I can contact each one, personally. I hope to figure out which ones are students, and if so, where they study. I myself plan on trying to start a club at Carleton University, and a local group with more regular meetings. So, I'll be starting on that as soon as possible. However, though, I think this planned rally,  at this point, is futile.

How many people attended the gondola meeting, if I may ask?

You should look into the requirements for starting university clubs before you go too far down that road. Of the three major universities in Edmonton, only one has any sort of satellite club for a major political party, and that only the Young Liberals. Sounds like starting a club, at least at all of the universities here, is a microcosm of starting a political party, with officers and official accounting and such.

I don't know that going official is the best use of our resources at this point. There's nothing to prevent an unofficial organization from operating on campus; official status just gives you access to college resources. The other parties have regional "Young Conservatives" clubs and such, and I think that's a good approach for us as well.

The Liberals, NDP, Greens, and Communists have registered clubs at CU, as well as other political organizations. Everything for registration is posted here, if you feel like reading them:

If anyone wants to split on a hotel room with me then I could probably make it.

The Ottawa Backpacker's Inn is a fantastic hostel near Byward Market. If memory serves, a bunk costs around $22/night.

Wow they must plan for political fanatics!

On another note VIA Rail Canada can get me there from Toronto for $77.

I usually take the bus. There's not much time difference (5h by bus vs. 4h by train if memory serves) and the bus is about half the price.

At this point I think it would probably be best to postpone until September. So far it looks like it'll just be me and a few friends that come along, I don't think it'll be worthwhile. No one has been interested in getting involved, but in the fall hopefully there will be more people who want to get involved.

And I'm still waiting for Nuitari to drop off the lists I asked of him, though I'm in no way going to rush him at this point.
