New Webspace for Members
Our new forum is expected to be online soon. You should receive an e-mail to activate your account within the next week or two. This will be our member's space to organize and discuss general issues, or brainstorm ideas and policies, check on officer's report and update your membership's info, etc. It will also eventually be used for asynchronous meeting. If you or anyone you know have recently signed up through manual mail-in checks or Election Canada signature form, please contact [email protected] before registering for an account.

Financial Status
Our current bank balance is now at $2,880.40 (as of 2021-12-02), after payment of the invoice billed to us by our former IT administrator. We have now implemented stricter guidelines for volunteer to disclose and keep track of their hours if their volunteer work involves task they normally charge for in their self-employed business or company.
Our Paypal balance is $364.13 as of 2013-12-07.

2013 Tax Deductions and Contributions (including bitcoins & cryptocurrency)
It is almost end of the year and time to make sure you get your monetary contribution for 2013 in to benefit from the tax deductions. Contributing to a political party, such as the Pirate Party, offers a good % tax break. The following are the general tax deductions rate:

    * 75% tax deduction for contribution up to $400.
    * More than $400 and up to $750 - $300 plus 50% of the amount by which that total exceeds $400.
    * when that total exceeds $750, the lesser of
        $650, and
$475 plus 33⅓% of the amount by which the total exceeds $750

Check Election Canada's website for any update.

We are now accepting bitcoins and will be looking at expanding to other crypto-currencies. Bitcoin contributions will be treated as online monetary contributions per Election Canada rules. The tax receipt will be issued based on the value of the crypto-currency at the time you made your contribution.

Monetary contributions can be made through https://my.pirateparty.ca/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=2

A Message from our Leader
Greetings fellow Pirates,

As we approach the end of the year we should take time to reflect on what we have accomplished together as a party. We successfully kept the party registered by collecting the 250 member signatures required by Elections Canada. As this was our first time doing so there was some concern about whether we would make it or not but in the end it went smoothly. During this past year we also took steps to expand our party platform and will continue to fine tune it ahead of the 2015 election.

There were struggles of course. The leadership ended last year frustrated at the lack of progress on many fronts. There were fears that December 2012 would be the end but we regrouped and we pulled through. This year also saw the departure of Travis McCrea from his position as Leader to focus on his battle with depression. But in the end he used this very personal battle as a means to start a discussion about mental health in Canada: http://www.straight.com/news/502356/travis-mccrea-resigning-pirate-party-canada-leader-deal-depression

This year has seen positive growth; seeing our callouts for volunteers be answered by a steady stream of motivated individuals. I would like to thank all of you for your assistance and am excited to see what we can accomplish together in the new year.

Efforts were taken to respond to more issues resulting in our output of press releases increasing from maybe one per month to one per week. An increase in media attention has been our reward. We will endeavour to continue getting better at reaching the media with our party's ideals, and through them, the people of Canada. In order to keep the membership better informed we will be sending out a regular monthly newsletter near the start of each month with useful information on what the party is doing and where our current focus is. While not yet complete I am told our party forum will be making its reappearance in the near future.

The General Meeting on the 18th will be the last before the holidays and I encourage you all to attend.

To everyone a merry Christmas, happy holidays, and I'll see you in 2014.

James Wilson
Interim Leader
Pirate Party of Canada
