Google ranking TPB (and others) lower

Google just sent out a press release saying that they will lower file sharing systems rankings in their search engine and instead favour our competitors (the old corrupt media industry that is). Since we're getting lots of e-mails from interested journalists about this, we'll just post our thoughts about this here instead.

First you need to know that a very low amount of our traffic actually comes from search engines such as google. If you think about it, you'll understand why - we're competitors. TPB is a search engine just as Google. We only specialize in different methods and links.

That Google is putting our links lower is in a way a good thing for us. We'll get more direct traffic when people don't get the expected search result when using Google since they will go directly to TPB.

The thing we don't like with this is that a corrupt industry is deciding what another industry has to do. They're dictating terms. It's really ironic: an industry that makes funny movies about dictators, where the dictator is essentially calling the USA a dictatorship, is trying to dictate terms where they have no place to do so....

TL,DR: Hollywood fucked up again, thanks.

I like how no matter what they do, it can be a plus for TPB. :D

I love you guys, and will continue to publish source code through your service so it can be reached by a wide number of people :3

google became the most popular search engine because it gave good results to search terms.
if they are now interfering with the search results, how long before they start to interfere with/bias other results at the request of big business?
that will make it a less useful search engine and another will come along and take over.
so, Google think again about bending over and dropping your pants for the so-called entertainment "industry"

Censorship is growing its dark hands.

Answer: stop using Google. Try DuckDuckGo. Someone recommended it to me, and while not as many bells and whistles as Google, it does do the job well, and doesn't censor your results.

I usualy use StartPage, althought that apparently takes results from Google and just doesn't save your IP address and stuff like that. I'll have to check to make sure...

Stop using Google and use DuckDuckGo and startpage and many more listed at
mipnow.com/search_engines.htm explains the filter bubble!
Long Live the Pirate Bay!!

You know I don't really understand what this is suppose to accomplish, as I entered the name of a recently published book, and the words epub and torrent. The first site up that came up with DuckDuckGo was good and got the book (not a fake) immediately (not a torrent even). When I did it in Google, that site came up third. So is slapping TPB and other file sharing sites really doing anything at all? These anti-pirate people seem utterly clueless at best.

Google is doing it under pressure probably and a large amount of people search google for downloading content for free, demoting the websites means poor search result and this will promote other search engines, so it sucks to be google now. As far as search engine is concerned ixquick.com is a very good meta search engine.

we don't need to get angry with google here, if they don't help us get what we want we'll just get some other way.
all aside now i trust google much less. hope that TPB will someday be a replacement :D) long live TPB

PS : pirates still support authors whenevr they can with whatever they can, they just don't like to be denied content when they can't.

I may be mistaken, but I do believe there are already class action lawsuits against Google for there page rank scandals, are there not??
#28. forresn - 08-23 2012
I would like to refer to this site.

i have yet to cite the quotes, but it might be a pubic outcry we can use.

according to Cnet reporters google had stated this on there site in response to a "pagerank" lawsuit.

"You can be assured that no one at Google has adjusted the results to decrease the ranking of one site or increase the ranking of another,"

Do people (and TPB) even know that it's products from hollywood that is the reason for people even using this site?
#31. rezabrando - 08-26 2012
Stop being so cocky, dammit. They took down Demonoid. What if they attack TPB too?
#32. hgiagiamou - 08-28 2012
Please create your own Pirate Search Engine!
#33. txrabbit - 08-29 2012
Yet again, I entered the name of a recently published book, and the words epub and torrent. A site up that came up with Google (a well-known torrent site and on the first page, I may add) was good and I got the book (not a fake) immediately. I repeat, is slapping TPB and other file sharing sites really doing anything at all? These anti-pirate people seem utterly clueless at best.
#34. Fopenplp - 08-29 2012
Not to be a dick, but if TPB was ACTUALLY competing with Google as a search engine, Google would win by a long shot. This site's search function is absolutely AWFUL.
#35. covacsVR - 08-29 2012
