Today, we filed a police report! :D

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Pirate Bay, the world’s largest site for cultural diversity and file sharing,
has today (Monday 2022-02-18) reported a suspected crime to the Finnish police.
The suspected criminals are the Finnish anti-piracy organization CIAPC
(locally known as TTVK).
The reason is that CIAPC have copied files from which The Pirate Bay is built,
to produce a fraudulent parody site.
While The Pirate Bay may have a positive view on copying, it will not stand by
and watch copyright enforcing organizations disrespect copyright.
- It's funny that we have to teach the copyright lobby the meaning of the law.
The fact that they wrote it doesn’t mean that they are above it, says Winston Bay.
CIAPC is not new to balancing on the edge of what's right and wrong. Last year,
they initiated a police raid against a 9 year old girl and confiscated her
Winnie the Pooh laptop.
- CIAPC is like an ugly high school bully without friends. It's time to take a stand.
Cyber bullying is a serious matter to us all, Winston Bay continues.
The money that CIAPC might have to pay for this crime will however not end up at The Pirate Bay.
- Our hearts are with the victimized 9 year old Finnish girl. Any money that might come
out of this will fund a new computer for the girl.
Facts:
The Pirate Bay is the world’s largest file sharing site.
It ranks as the world’s 58th largest site.
Since its launch in 2003, it has maintained a strong stance for internet freedom and
against censorship.
It is run by dozens of individuals from all around the world, all with the same values
of liberty, kopimi and progressiveness.

Bullies need to be confronted and truth spoken to power.

Two areas in which TPB excels.

Never surrender. :)

I think this is totally the wrong direction to go. Treat others as you wish to be treated. As long as they do not make money from your copyright, let them use it all they want. This is bound to go the wrong way. We want less restrictive copyright laws, so we should not go around suing people over copyright infringements. Show the correct way to handle this by acting as you would the copyright holders should act. This will only harm the cause I fear. You should instead laugh at them (you call it parody anyways, which is protected in most jurisdictions) and perhaps make a similar copy of their website.
Also, I have read multiple stories saying that the little girl received a brand new laptop from anonymous donors within days of that raid.

I agree with drzero42

To fight fire with fire will only cause more fire, to put the fire out with water will cease the destruction. To finish your opponent you must go above and beyond them, an dissipate them from a higher power. They have stooped to a lower level then us, we have the opportunity to seize the moral high ground, by suing them we fall for their trap as it is exactly what they would expect us to have done. Use this opportunity to increase the power and size of The Pirate Bay, they placed and image of a sinking ship and they want that to be us. Let's build a bigger ship that truly sinks theirs.

No agreement with both drzero42 and Assault591.

What TPB did is exactly a seizure of the moral high ground. Copyright orgs stand by and promote a ridiculous set of rules, yet they ignore these rules when it suits them. TPB, by using the same methods they use while obviously standing against both the methods and the rules they stem from has made a great move to expose the org for the hapless corporate pawns they truly are.

This was the best course of action TPB could take, as it increases the case's publicity. Doing nothing, which you seem to suggest as the better choice, would just make the curious case of copyright protectors breaking the copyright go by unnoticed or, even worse, considered as acceptable.

It is not a "fight fire with fire" tactic. In this case fighting fire with fire would amount to TPB hiring some thugs to break into the CIAPC's server rooms, or kidnapping the company's directors to deliver "justice" onto them.

good for you, this is awesome
#21. cookitron - 02-26 00:56
I really can't believe the TPB has done this. In the past (see 'legal threats') we've seen the crew laugh off these bullies and carry on walking. This move seems unnecessary and hypocritical from you guys. If they want to break the rules then let them, isn't freedom of speech what the internet is all about? If it is then that means letting the people at the CIAPC spout their hypocritical banter and not run off to your mum and dad because big brother has pinched your dummy and dangled it in your face.
#22. mindcrasher - 02-26 02:32
i was happy when i found out that you were suing a anti piracy org. but then when I keep reading you were giving the money to the little girl it made me smile. she did not need to be raided by the police at that age at all!
#23. akinao - 02-26 03:58
Can you make a parody website of their parody website? Maybe something like

"Theparodybay.org"?

Once that is done then we can move onto the fun copyright legalities :)
#24. lentheric - 02-26 04:07
You guys don't get it, TPB doesnt break any rules by linking user uploaded torrents. That responsibility is solely with the users/uploaders. But what CIAPC did was illegal and a violation of copyright rules. Its not fire with fire, CIAPC is funded by the movie industry and has political backing, if copyright laws were like how they wanted them to be TBP would be down and out straight away. But TPB discrediting this organisation with copyright infringement lawsuit would hopefully make it harder for them to enforce their agenda and shows people the dirty methods they use when lobbying for the opposite effect (More copyright laws).

as the creator of empires and generals ccg, author of 5 books, and as a musician and a visual artist (painter), i strongly appreciate copyright and fair use of all my works and support those who share and spread my work. i appreciate the pirate bay for its promotion of empires and generals and empiresandgenerals.com this last year on their promo-bay agenda and fully support and endorse this site to all of my friends and relatives. you are great leaders and vanguards of freedom and truth on the digital frontier. keep it up you crazy code monkeys, we lesser artists endorse you and apologize for the pretentious fuck-tards that abuse you.

Long Live TPB! Almost IF NOT the only stand up group that has been here since the start with Napster, fighting and still fighting for everyones voice on the internet!

If you did not know. The internet was suposed to be used by the defence agencies and goverments around the world. It was never intended for the kind of freedom we enjoy today and take for granted.

They see that this so called "file sharing" is out of control when in reality i would almost go as far as saying that they are attacking our freedom of speech. They want to take back the control over the internet.

Can you take a step back and even begin to imagine how the internet would be like without TPB? ALL Bittorrent sites gone... nowhere to dl a song without paying for it first. Imagine all the forums with their special "Goverment moderators" where you cant even speak a negative word about your local politician or local super market at that matter. Just like it is in the US at this moment, Today! YOU are not allowed to speak a bad wor
#27. FtoTheY - 02-26 06:40
YOU are not allowed to speak a bad word about a company, any company. Not even the goverment. If you do and someone from the company or the goverment hears you... then beware because you will get sued for slander and they will bankrupt you and destroy your entire life. Or the FBI will come knockin and down to Guantamo Bay we go. AAhhh yeah! USA! THE LAND OF OPORTUNITY! HA HA HA

Its finally time for TPB to hit the companies with their own club! Use their own rules against them! Now we shall see what the copyright companies and Hollywood will do! They made the laws! They try to censur the way of live of modern day human beings! NOW WILL THEY ABIDE BY THEIR OWN LAWS!? WILL THEY LEAD BY EXAMPLE!? nah.... they will do what they always do.. just fuck the public opinion and do whatever they want to, because as all the goverments know.. individuals and small groups in the society have no power and we can bully them as we like aslong as they are divided and belive what we tell them.

Cant wait to see what happe
#28. FtoTheY - 02-26 06:59
I just had the best or worst idea of my life...

dont think its possible.. but maybe.. just maybe.. with the help of TPB and their friends, Everybodys friends across the globe...

Cant we start a name/protest list thats open to the entire population of the world and you can only register your name/vote once...

There is something about the idea... IF 80% of the inhabitants of this planet that use internet would unite and speak as one... I hope i will live until then if it ever comes to pass. That day would be historic...

The Voice of The People has spoken.. what would all the companies and countries in the world do?

As i said, I dont even know if this is possible with todays technology.. But if there is something that TPB has shown us and the rest of the world its that if there is a will there is a way!

TPB for life

#32. Brognor - 02-26 19:10
"anti-piracy organization"? .... This stupidity can't be true...
#33. nikotiini3 - 02-27 01:59
Brognor, it is :) TTVK has been bullying Finnish pirate community for ages. They caused a huge news story where they went against a 9 year old pirate girl for downloading a CD by Chisu. They took her laptop as evidence. Everyone hates them and the strangest thing is, they are an independent organization. They have no connection to the government. Are their actions even legal? They should die already.
#34. nikotiini3 - 02-27 02:01
Oh and what many people think is, that hey themselves are planting tracked torrents on piratebay to catch us. When they were asked if it was true they said "No comment" or something. Now that would really be illegal.
#35. Juneass - 02-27 20:19
Perhaps TBP should use the Copyright laws to its favor?
Throttle the internet of CIAPC, send a massive bill to CIAPC for Copyright infringement?
There are many immoral things one could do.
#36. MeGa11 - 02-27 22:50
lol
#37. takonoashi - 03-01 10:14
Sorry to break the fun but seems the girl did get her computer back. The charges were dropped after her father settled to pay a reduced fine of 300e. There's a bunch of articles in Finnish about that.
