Ok thought about a few video campaign ideas. We could use music from artist under the Creative Commons. Music like this maybe:

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/377578
or
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/306544

And for the script: (ok narration and text just put up quickly together and still have to be improved. Just putting it out there to give the gist of it)

Video on Net neutrality
------------------------------

[video of old bridges - black and white historical footage - busy traffic on bridge and highways.]
Narration: The bridges and roads were critical infrastructure with the advent of the industrial revolution, improving people's rights to mobility and commerce.
[video showing fibre optic animation with data packets traveling at light speed]
Now as we enter the information age, the internet backbone have become the critical infrastructure for commerce, communication and the pursuit of knowledge.

[video of suddenly the lights choking and slowing down. - audio: choking sounds.
zoom out show a guy with ":Censor guru" on the back of his jacket, strangling a big fat fibre optic cable.
flowing or zooming text: Artificial bottleneck; throttling, shaping, bandwidth caps.]

Zoom in to microscopic level inside cable with travelling light.
A traffic police with Traffic Nazi printed on his back jacket or hat is directing traffic. One cartoon character with TV head with the display - "low affordable unlimited flicks net" being directed to slow lane as the Traffic nazi guy say "No high speed for youuuuuu". The animated TV head collapse his shoulder and head facing down as he walk to slower lane. "Urgent biz presentation video" zooming by and was stopped and bandwidth cap pass checked failed and turned away. ]

[video: sword doing a crossbone stroke on the video of census bureau choking the fibre optic network]
Text on video: Pirate Party fighting for Net Neutrality.
Text on video: And we are deadly serious about it.

Video on privacy and wiretapping:
---------------------------------------------

[video: Census guru spying on network. Magnifying glass examining the fibre optic traffic. Saw an old lady protesting with the sign "Census guru is a cutie". Census Guru then yells: "Terrorist!". Sidekick says "where?" and look at where census guru is pointing. Frowns and puzzled look. Census guru then says "she terrorizes me".]

Text flowing / narration:
Government of Canada have made several attempts and continue to try to pass legislation that would make wiretapping against innocent user legal, bypassing the court. A law that if passed would not only violate our privacy but also the ethos of free country - "Innocent until proven guilty"

Text: It had happened before, it can happen again.

Flowing text: McCarthyism;
Nixon Watergate;
FBI spying, harassment and attempted deportation against John Lennon for voicing dissenting political views.
......
and millions of people around the world have been, and continued to be, prosecuted and murdered for political dissent.

Let's roll forward not rollback on our civil liberties.

[Video of census bureau picking out other terrorist looking very nervous, pointing at one placard that says I disagree]
[sword cross out the video like a cross bone. ]

Pirate Party, helping protect our civil liberties in the information age.

And we are deadly serious about it.

Video on Open and transparent government
-------------------------------------------------------------

Video showing a person in his bathrobe with morning coffee. Sit down and click on transparent tablet screen with list of items awaiting his votes. He click on some to assign it to proxy voting for his representative and vote on some items. Click open another screen to see government spending records. click save to local hard drive. Click record on button that says "voice opinion" and spoke to video cam expressing his opinion on a matter. "I read the experts report and I think this is how we should proceed....."

Flowing text: the future is now. Dare to change.

Video of government clerk blocking out a document with stamp "document for release under the Access to Information Act".  Zoom out of document and it shows almost whole document is blocked out.

[sword cross out the video like a cross bone. ]

Pirate Party of Canada, working to give people genuine voices in government,
making government open, transparent and accountable.

And we are deadly serious about it.

That's all I have for now. Have to think of a good one for copyright and patent.

Before I review this, just realize I'm going to read through it with complete objectivity. Comments are bolded.

[I like this idea, and it will be carried on.]

[Whatever conclusion we have, it will be a uniform theme. NO "deadly serious". I prefer "Pirate Party. Information Leadership.", but that can be debated. The last 2 seconds should simply have our logo (either signet or signet-name) with the web address below it, silent.]

I agree with Mike's assessments, particularly the vehement ones. However, bear in mind that most people watch advertising with the volume off. Our message should be as visual as possible.

Ok thought about a few video campaign ideas. We could use music from artist under the Creative Commons.

That raises an interesting question. As a political party, can we use CC-BY-NC? Or does use in promotional materials qualify as commercial use?

Sounds like some New Pirate Party tripe.

Here's one that I've been mulling over for a bit. I think it may be influenced by some ideas that others have raised in the past, but it's been a while.

The first part of the ad takes place in reverse, with people moving backwards, slowed down slightly.

A wall of TVs in an electronics store. One by one, they turn off in a wave as the camera pans from left to right. If we can find a store manager willing to go along with it, we could also film it in stop motion with someone taking the TVs down as they turn off.

The hand of someone sitting in a car, holding an Android phone, then an iPhone, then a BlackBerry, filmed again in stop motion with the phones becoming progressively older and larger until the hand is empty and flexes briefly inwards, grabbing on empty air.

A computer, showing a video, suddenly switches to a blank screen with a padlock icon, then powers off. Beside it, a TV, also showing the same video, switches to a blue screen as the disk is ejected from the DVD player, flying upwards into a waiting hand.

An iPod, also handheld, becomes progressively older, turns into a MiniDisc player, then a Walkman, then disappears.

Finally, the video starts playing forwards. A camera moves slowly towards a small, black-and-white TV in the centre of a large room, empty and dark save for a couch with a man sitting on it. The camera moves over his shoulder, panning to show his face, slack and disinterested. Text appears on the screen (rough suggestion): “The entertainment industry wants the good old days back.”

Suddenly, the video rewinds over the course of a second or two, back to the wall of TVs, which show the Pirate Party logo spanned across all of the displays. Text (rough suggestion again): “Defending culture in a changing world.”

Ok this is in U.S. but might answer your question. On the case of Mastercard vs Ralph Nader campaign it was ruled that :

With regard to the first factor, the court again pointed to the non-commercial, political purpose of the Nader ad, which it read as a transformative parody of the MasterCard “Priceless” series.

So the political ad was ruled as non-commercial. So I guess library archive music that says non-commercial use or CC-by-NC is probably safe for political messages. That's how I interpret it. I did not carefully dissect the whole article but that's what I get from it.

That's also fair use rather than CC.

What if we did a parody of those MPAA "you wouldn't steal a purse" commercials with something like

"
If we had an abundance of food... We would share.
If we had an abundance of clothing... we would share.
if we had an abundance of shelter... we would share.

We do have an abundance of information. Let us share."

snuck up behind him and took his Quran - he said something about burning the Quran and I was like dude you have no Quran
