It seems to me lately for last couple weeks that wikileaks has been dominating the issue of this party while seemingly neglecting our own issues regarding copyright laws, transparency, patent reform, and others in Canada.

In fact, I tend to forget lately whether we are a political party or an organization dedicated to issue of wikileaks.

All I'm saying is to bring back PPCA into focus (50+1%) with Canadian issues rather then overseas while at the same time managing this wikileaks issue (no more then 49% of our time).

But thats my opinion, what do you guys (gals) think about managing our time between wikileaks and our own? Your input would be appreciated.

I don't think it's fair to say that Wikileaks has contributed to PPC neglecting the issue of transparency. I would go as far as to say that the opposite is true. Wikileaks has forcefully raised the issue of open government on a scale no previous organization has done before, and I personally feel it's important that PPC takes action to support it. Judging by the recent poll, I would say a lot of people share similar opinions. Furthermore, there is a lot of exposure to be had through this Wikileaks business. As far as copyright goes, C-32 is quite likely going to fail and there have been quite a few efforts from within the party to raise awareness of the bill. I'm all for further action to facilitate the spread of information though. An idea that I've been dwelling on in the last little while is a campaign of some sort to raise awareness of darknets. But of course you're correct in your assertion that we should be focusing on all issues relevant to the PPC platform. What did you have in mind?

I agree with you to an extent, but I think there's a lot to be gained in terms of public exposure through our support of WikiLeaks. Furthermore, now that our position on the matter has been settled, it's no longer up for dispute and should occupy less of the attention of the general membership, even though the Federal Council will be focusing significant activity on the matter based on the direction given it for some time to come.

Bill C-470 - this bill is to uncover all blankets over individuals making big bucks while working for a charity status in Canada (some complain that such transparency could be disadvantages when competing with other charities for money)

There are other similar bills relating to what we are fighting for OR against (depending on what bills). But I have yet to hear from anyone regarding the bills above (except for C-32 that was mention in a blurb in a forum somewhere).

C-32 is in committee right now, so not a lot has changed in terms of its content so far, aside from a series of presentations by stakeholders (mostly big business). I just did a radio interview on C-32 on Friday.

Actually, this is why I'm proposing a research committee, we need a more focused and directed approach to bring issues of interest to the public's and party's attention.
