To all Pirate Party members, aficionados, and curious bystanders,

On February 15th and 16th Jeff Coleman, Pirate candidate in the previous Winnipeg North by-election, will be attending the exclusive innovation conference TEDxManitoba.  Because of the important networking opportunities of such an event, we would like to convene a Winnipeg check-in to make some decisions regarding the next election, which may be as early as this spring.  This will be the opportunity to meet other Pirates, learn about the party, and participate in the future direction of the party both locally and nationally.  One reason to attend might be, for example, if you think Jeff should run again--he can't do it alone.  The meeting will be held sometime between now and the 14th, based on whatever consensus emerges by noon, February 10; so please let us know when you would be able to attend via twitter, facebook, here on the forums, or by email to [email protected] .

Please note the difference between Parlay and Parley--Jack Sparrow will not be present at this particular meeting.  Forward this message to all via these many pipes!

Sincerely,
PegNorthPirate

I'm going to pass this on to some of my friends in Winnipeg.

snuck up behind him and took his Quran - he said something about burning the Quran and I was like dude you have no Quran

No, the speakers were selected long before I was even chosen to run as a candidate, so I'm sure I was nowhere near their radar.  But at a ratio of 20 speakers to 100 attendees it is going to be a pretty sweet conference.  I'm really looking forward to it!

Meeting has been cancelled for lack of interest--at present I will probably not be pursuing politics at TEDxManitoba--a good campaign is too much work to go it alone!

That sucks Jeff. You were a great candidate and I would love to see you run again.

Are you having regular meetings with Winnipeg pirates to come up with local promotion & marketing ideas? Small events are one of the better ways to recruit additional membership, local interest, and develop a local volunteer base.

I'm not saying I won't run--if the local support comes together for me or someone else I will still be interested.  It's just that I'm not going to try and leverage TEDxManitoba for this without anything else to back me up.

On that subject, it wouldn't be a bad idea to start door-knocking now if we've got an election around the corner. I understand if you don't have time, though. I haven't been able to do the same.

The final word was that you could witness your own signatures, right?

Mr.Coleman:

You got balls m8.
I respect that - highly.
Angry windyprops + Karma and Huzzah for you.
Being in Vancouver - unfortunately there aint much I can do to support you other than that.

Oh and I guess I should give Mik the evil eye for not delivering on yet another PR miracle.

I am going to be canvassing in the riding this weekend and we're stepping up local events. As I've learned the hard way, it's important to focus on getting enough people to do the work rather than trying and failing to do everything yourself. Right now I'd be lucky to have four people on my campaign. If I don't work to change that now, there's no way I'll be able to run an effective campaign.

You criticize me for inaction, when you should be criticising me for failing to put together the support needed to prevent every action from relying on my participation. That's changing. Slowly, but we're working on it.
