"Michael Murray (50), who was released from prison last year after serving 13 years for raping four women over a six day period in 1995, says he cannot live anywhere because as soon as he moves, newspapers reveal his address and print pictures of him."

There's justice and then there's vigilante justice. Let's trust the former to do its job.

To be honest, in my opinion - he has no right to complain as he has brought it upon himself, if you steal something - then monitoring your movement would be excessive and invasion of privacy. However, if you go around raping 4 women in 6 days - then obviously there is something mentally wrong with that guy that needs to prevent such thing happening again by letting other people know who (predators) when (time) they come into their areas.

You abuse it, you lose it (in this case regarding this creepo).

Then the legal system should have harsher sentences. You don't publish someone's name and address so that an angry mob can run them out of town, no matter what they've done. If they're a danger to the public, they should still be inside. If not, they should be afforded the freedom to live their lives.

But if he's a danger to the public and outside - what does that warrant?

Beside, remember that Li guy who beheaded Mclean on the greyhound bus some years ago? Well they're considering granting him some freedom outside - but was squash by the Manitoba NDP government, that was 2 days ago!

The thing is, sometimes people are just wired wrong - no matter what medication, treatment you give them - they're just like that.

Is he?
Do you have the aptitude to determine if he is a danger to others?

raping 4 women in 6 days - is that enough to know he's a danger to others?

Im with Mikkel on this one. If the guy is still a danger then keep him locked up, or under watch from the cops. Spraying his info all over newspapers and TV news is just asking for trouble.

In our litigous society not informing the public could also be seen as helping to cause a crime to occur which I presume is why such offenders are outed when they enter a community.

Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.

I think you just hit on another fundamental problem there.
