Canada Day

Canada Day

This weekend I had the great pleasure of meeting up with Ric Lim, our insanely hard working secretary; Andrew Paolucci, our dedicated IT director; and Patrick Fitzgerald, political council member and head of the project development committee. I am so proud to work along side each of them and the entire team that volunteers their time for the Pirate Party.

Canada Day is about celebrating our nations birthday, and while sometimes, due to the political system stacked against us, all the work we put into the …

Pirate Party Responds to Kickass Torrent Seizure

Pirate Party Responds to Kickass Torrent Seizure

I have owned a few torrent websites in my life, and one thing I have learned from this venture was people will upload anything and everything and if we wanted to go through everything it would be physically impossible with a staff less than 100. It’s impossible to know who uploaded what content and who owns the rights to what so when we learned to day that the dotPH registry has suspended the kat.ph domain name we were upset at their technological ignorance.

RCMP and Industry Canada IP Addresses Found To Be Downloading Torrents

There has been some buzz recently surrounding the Montreal corporation Canipre, an organization which claims to perform “Canadian Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement.” In light of the methods Canipre is using to attempt to enforce intellectual property rights, we thought it was time to renew our hunt to see if we could find copyright infringement in other parts of our government. Show Me What Democracy Looks Like

Most of the time, these go unanswered and unreported on. It happens, we are a minor party and these papers have topics that will appeal to the mainstream more …

Keep DRM Out Of HTML 5

The Pirate Party of Canada has signed an open letter with the Free Software Foundation (FSF) encouraging the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to reject the Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) proposal as a part of HTML, the foundation of the web as most people know it. The proposal establishes the foundation for what will be used as a Digital Rights Management (DRM) system built into our web, this isn’t just bad because it blocks Canadians from using content under fair dealings, but also because it …

Pirate Party Saves, Gains +2 Strength Next Election

TORONTO - The Pirate Party is announcing it will not run in the Labrador by-election due to a flawed Canadian election system. The Pirate Party of Canada is dissapointed by the Liberal Party’s position on many issues such as copyright reform, proportional representation, and civil liberties. However, we believe that not only does the Conservative Party not embrace Canadian values as we see them, it is also putting undue economic pressure on younger, growing parties like ours. Removal of funding based on vote percentage …
